Car Crash Involving Suspended License Results in One Fatality

On March 23, 2022, state police responded to a crash on Interstate 74 near mile marker 8. The crash was headed by a 2016 Freightliner that collided with the passenger side of a 2012 Toyota Camry. Both vehicles were traveling eastbound, but for an unknown reason, the Camry was facing southbound. Following the crash, both vehicles came to rest in the north ditch of the westbound lane. The driver of the 2016 Freightliner sustained serious injuries but was taken into custody after medical treatment due to the discovery that they were driving on a suspended license. The driver of the Toyota Camry was unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene.

Driving with a suspended license can be extremely dangerous to those around you. When your license is suspended, it could be for a variety of reasons. Some of the most common reasons for having your license suspended are too many driving record points, getting too many traffic violations or speeding tickets, or receiving a DUI. All of these reasons provide important context into a person’s driving abilities and history and should not be taken lightly.

If you or a loved one has recently been involved in a car collision with someone who has a suspended license that resulted in serious or fatal injury, you may be entitled to compensation to account for your physical and emotional damages. Immediately after a car crash, you may be left feeling overwhelmed with the medical bills associated with recovery from a serious injury, which, depending on your insurance and injuries, can be hundreds of thousands of dollars. Additionally, you may want to file a claim with the company that insures the other driver involved. These claims can be difficult to navigate, not to mention insurance companies have opposing objectives to you. To you, filing a claim means receiving compensation to cover your medical expenses. To an insurance agency, these claims mean more money coming out of their pocket, so they will attempt to settle with the lowest amount possible. As a regular person, you may not be familiar with some of the tactics these insurance agents use to get you to settle for an amount that is significantly less than what you deserve, which is where hiring an attorney can be beneficial.
