Alcohol-related rollover crash on I-74 leaves 1 dead and 5 injured near Ogden

Authorities are still investigating a single-vehicle rollover crash on Interstate 74 near Ogden that occurred at 11:27 p.m. on Friday night. A 27-year old Danville man was killed in the rollover accident, and five other men aged 15-24 were transported to a local hospital for treatment for their injuries. The occupants of the Chrysler Pacifica were headed east when their vehicle left the road, hit the median wires, and overturned, ending up in the westbound traffic lanes.The deceased was ejected from the vehicle in the crash. Illinois State Police state that alcohol was found at the scene, and they did not know if any of the individuals in the accident were wearing seatbelts at the time of the rollover crash.

Tax Day study shows increase in fatal accidents

A study was recently done by a team of researchers that analyzed data from the fatal car crashes on Tax Day for the past 30 years. Results from this showed that the number of fatal car crashes is higher on Tax Day than any other day of the month.

Researchers shows that the number of crashes on this day over the 30 year period is at 6,783. When averaged out per tax day, this total out till 226 per Tax Day, compared to other days of the month when the average was found to be 213.

Officials in the study think that this could be because people are under stress because of the day and more human error occurs. Officials also stated that the reckless driving may also be because people are racing to the post office to meet the deadline.

Two teenagers killed in accident in Oklahoma

A 16-year-old girl and her 13-year-old brother from Fairbury were killed in a car accident while their family was on vacation in Oklahoma.

The accident occurred when the driver of the motor home the family was riding in, ran off the Cherokee Turnpike, near Tulsa for unknown reasons. After the vehicle ran off the right side of the road, it struck four concrete pillars.

The driver had to be freed from the vehicle by emergency crews and he and his wife were transported to the hospital along with two other passengers. The two teenagers were pronounced dead at the scene at 5:35 p.m.

Four Danville High School students injured in crash

Four student-athletes from Danville High School were injured in a car crash, but they are all expected to make a full recovery.

The accident occurred when a 63-year-old woman was driving an SUV and she lost control and hit a guardrail. This impact caused her vehicle to swerve across multiple lanes of traffic and hit the student’s car head-on.

Two brothers were in the vehicle along with their two friends. Fellow classmates are shaken up from the accident and are hoping that their classmates will make a full recovery.

Four injured in Illinois car accident

A two-car accident occurred in Illinois  on Route 16 west of Hillsboro. Traffic was stopped for nearly an hour as emergency crews responded to the scene.

A 35-year-old man was driving in a rain storm when his car started hydroplaning and he slid into the path of an oncoming vehicle that was being driven by a 19-year-old female. The 35-year-old man’s car flipped over onto its side after it struck the passenger door of the oncoming vehicle.

Both drivers and the two passengers that were in the car with the 19-year-old, were transported to the hospital.

Six injured in five-vehicle crash

Six people were injured in a five-vehicle crash on U.S. 136 in the rural areas of Penfield on May 30, according to authorities.

All of the vehicles were heading east on 136 when, about half a mile from County Road 2700E, there was a slow down in traffic due to a field fire that had restricted the visibility of the road.

There has not been an exact cause of the accident released but the low visibility is said to be the reason for the car pile-up. The extent of injuries was also not released at this time.

Police officers injured in crash

Two Chicago police officers were injured in a car crash while responding to a call on the south side of the city early on Friday morning.

The officers were responding to a call for officer assistance around 12:10 a.m. near the intersection of Halstead and 35th when a vehicle approaching the intersection ran the red light. This forced the officer to swerve to avoid a collision, losing control of the vehicle. The police car then crashed into a parked car near the intersection. The other driver involved in the crash did not stop at the scene of the accident.

The two officers were transported to Stroger Hospital for treatment. Their injuries are not life-threatening.


38-year old woman killed in accident in Iroquois

A two-car accident at a rural intersection in Iroquois County resulted in the death of a 38-year old woman. The accident occurred at the corner of 400E road and 1100N Road two miles north of Buckley. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other driver was not injured in the accident.
