A head-on collision occurred on Illinois 1, south of Vermilion County Road 2820 N, which is about a mile northwest of Bismark, at 7:45 a.m. on Friday morning. One person was killed, and a second was injured. A 47-year-old man was headed south when his car veered into the northbound lane, hitting another car head-on. His car then flipped and caught on fire. The driver of this vehicle died at the scene. The Vermilion County Coroner Jane McFadden, who performed an autopsy Saturday, identified the driver as James D. Callahan, 47, of Hoopeston.
The northbound vehicle that was struck came to a stop in the middle of the road. The driver of the vehicle, a 29-year-old woman, was taken to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. She was wearing a seatbelt. There has been no more information released about the driver of this vehicle.
The accident caused Route 1 to be closed for several hours on Friday. The Illinois State Police and the Vermillion County Coroner’s office are investigating the accident.

A 29-year old man from Foosland was killed in a crash in Northwestern Champaign County on Thursday night. Authorities say that a driver’s failure to stop at an intersection led to the collision, which killed one and injured two others. Illinois State Police say that the accident occurred at the intersection of County Road 3200 N. and Illinois 47.
The 22-year-old driver of the other vehicle was reportedly trying to pass a third vehicle in the intersection when he struck the victim’s car. The driver and another 22-year-old passenger were taken to Gibson Area Hospital for treatment of their injuries. The driver was also issued tickets for disobeying a no-passing zone, improper passing at an intersection, and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

The southbound lanes of Illinois 1 have been closed, and a northbound lane has been shut down at Ross Lane following a serious collision. Authorities are on the scene and emergency medical personnel have already transported at least one person to an area hospital after a fire truck collided with a passenger vehicle and overturned.
A tanker truck from the Kickapoo Fire Protection District was responding to a large fire at an apartment building in downtown Westville when the accident occurred. Other fire crews from Westville and neighboring departments were able to respond to the fire.

A head-on collision on Illinois 1 near Hoopeston has left both drivers dead, according to a report from the Illinois State Police. The accident occurred at 6:21 p.m. on Wednesday near County Road 3870 N. It is believed that a 59-year old woman heading southbound in a minivan was hit head-on by a 52-year old man driving a pickup truck. Authorities do not know the reason why, but the driver of the pickup truck crossed the center line into the southbound lane, causing the vehicles to collide. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and the woman was airlifted to a local hospital where she later died from her injuries.

A two-car car accident on Batavia’s west side Friday, Feb. 15 sent one man to the hospital and left two other people with minor injuries. The man taken to the hospital, identified as 61-year-old David A. Schele of Sugar Grove, later died due to injuries sustained in the accident.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation. According to police reports, Schele’s vehicle and another vehicle with a male and female inside were in an accident at Randall Road and McKee Street in Batavia. The male and female were treated for injuries and released at the scene.
Before being taken to Delnor Hospital in Geneva, IL, Schele had to be “extricated” from his vehicle. According to police, an accident reconstruction team reported to the crash scene around 8:32 p.m. and traffic reopened on Randall Road around 10:30 p.m.

A two-car accident at a rural intersection in Iroquois County resulted in the death of a 38-year old woman. The accident occurred at the corner of 400E road and 1100N Road two miles north of Buckley. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other driver was not injured in the accident.
