Explosion in Georgetown

It has been reported that there has been a massive explosion at a home south of Georgetown the evening of Thursday, March 26, 2020. While the house has been destroyed, thankfully, there were no injuries were reported. When the blast occurred, at about 8pm, neighbors and other community members in as far away as Fairmount and Chrisman reported that they heard the blast. It has also been reported by neighbors that the house has been vacant. The explosion flung debris into nearby trees and also blew out windows at an adjacent house.

In addition to the Georgetown Firefighters, there were nearly half-dozen other departments that arrived to help at the scene.  The other departments included Catlin, Chrisman, Ridge Farm, Tilton, and Westville. Firefighters arrived quickly to a scene of flames debris.  The cause of the blast was not immediately known and the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office is assisting in the investigation.
