1 killed in Hancock County fatal crash

One person was killed after his vehicle was involved in an accident in Hancock County.

In the report provided by the Illinois State Police District 14, the fatal accident happened at around 6 a.m. on Friday, November 1 when the vehicle driven by an unidentified man was struck by another vehicle driven by 77-year-old Charles DeJaynes. DeJaynes, who was reportedly driving a semi-trailer truck, was heading east of Illinois 9 when it crashed into the driver’s side of the other vehicle after trying to avoid a deer that ran onto the roadway. The semi-trailer drifted into the middle lane after DeJaynes stepped on the brake pedal. The collision instantly killed the unidentified man while Charles, who was charged with improper lane usage, was hospitalized after sustaining minor injuries from the crash.
