Patients file lawsuit against hip manufacturing company

Patients are suing DePuy Orthopaedics after reeving hip replacement surgeries that had painful complications that required further surgery.

Thirteen people in Illinois and Indiana have joined together to file the suit against Depuy. Last month, the company recalled two hip resurfacing and replacement products that launched in 2004.

The device that was used in the U.S. contained a metal ball and metal socket. Patients who experienced issues with the replacement product claimed that they noticed a clicking noise when they walked, followed by pain.

After going to the doctor, it was found in woman that the metal was staining her tissue because her hip was deteriorating. Depuy hip system was widely used at Carle Foundation Hospital, with nearly 300 surgeries occurring there. Ten percent of the surgeries performed there required  additional surgery.
