Semi-trailer accident on I-65 results in death of one man

A semi-trailer accident on Interstate 65 resulted in a fire that engulfed two vehicles and took the life of one man.

According to Indiana State Police, the accident occurred as a 23-year-old man from Chicago was unable to stop when traffic backed up on the Interstate. He then collided with another truck that was carrying petroleum products and paint.

This vehicle then caught fire and it spread to the other truck as well. The driver in the truck that initiated the accident, was killed as a result. The roads were closed for more than five hours while crews cleared the scene and cleaned the spilled fluids. Police have said that the other driver was not injured.

Woman killed in semi-truck accident on Route 50

A woman from Manteno was killed after a semi-truck accident occurred on Illinois Route 50.

According to officials, the accident occurred when the 86-year-old woman’s vehicle and a semi-truck collided near the 10800 block of  Illinois Route 50.

The woman was taken to a local hospital and later transported to Loyola University Medical Center in order to be treated. She was later pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the accident. A portion of the highway was closed for hours while crews investigated and cleared the scene.

Two semi-trucks involved in fiery crash

A fiery crash caused traffic to back up on I-90 on Tuesday after a two semi-trucks were involved in an accident with two mini vans.

The accident occurred as one of the semi-trucks crashed into another one causing a chain reaction accident. The second semi-truck then collided with two mini-vans. This impact caused the fuel tanks on one of the semi-trucks to rip off and land in between the vans.

The fuel tank on one of the vans also ruptured and three of the vehicles caught fire. One of the truck drivers was transported to the hospital , but he was later released because his injuries were non-life threatening. He was cited with failure to reduce speed after the accident.

Worker injured in construction accident on Interstate 57

One man remains hospitalized after a construction trucking accident on Interstate 57 near Ashkum and Gilman.

A 49-year-old man was hauling compressed hydrogen canisters on a semi-truck when he rear-ended a construction truck. The accident occurred in a construction zone where crews were working on the road.

State police inspected the scene for a leak or spill of the materials but nothing was found. The man remains in serious condition at Riverside Medical Center.

Train collides with truck at railroad crossing

A 51-year-old’s semi-trailer became stuck on railroad tracks and was not able to move because there were vehicles in front and behind him.

The accident occurred at Nagle Crossing making it the sixth crash at this crossing since 2005. The man leaped from the driver’s seat of the car and managed to escape serious injury.

No other injuries were reported, but the train delayed traffic for over an hour. The man was ticketed for stopping on railroad tracks but he has said that he will fight the charges. The traffic signals at the intersection are operated by the Chicago Department of Transportation.

Father and son killed in Danville collision

A car and truck accident on I-74 killed a father and son from St. Joseph on July 8.

The accident occurred when the 52-year-old man and his 23-year-old son were heading westbound on the highway and their Toyota Camry crossed the center line and struck a semi-trailer head-on. Officials believe that the car may have hydroplaned on the slick, rainy roads.

The father and son were pronounced dead at the scene, a third person was injured in the accident, a 21-year-old woman from Mansfield. The driver of the semi-truck was not injured.

Rollover truck accident backs up traffic on I-355

Two lanes of the highway were shut down after a rollover truck accident involving two trucks, one which was transporting 350 cases of liquor.

According to Illinois State Police, the accident occurred when a semi-truck rear-ended a box truck on I-355. The impact of the collision caused the box truck to flip and land on its side and the boxes of alcohol spill across the highway.

Rescue crews transported both of the drivers to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Two of the lanes in the roadway were closed for over an hour.

Illinois truck accident kills three, injures 13

A chain-reaction car and truck accident on Interstate 57 left three people dead and 13 more injured.

The accident occurred as a truck driver looked down at a map while driving and struck a car in front of him. The vehicle in front of him had stopped because of a construction site in the road. The SUV that was hit then caught fire after the collision and killed all three people inside.

The thirteen others were transported to the hospital, but their current condition is unknown. The horrific accident is still being investigated by officials.

Woman Killed By Semi Truck After Changing Tire

A 36-year-old mother of two was killed after pulling over to the side of the road to change a tire.

The accident happened on Tri-State Tollway to check a flat tire on the passenger side. When she tried to return to the driver seat, a sem- truck struck and killed her. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver was questioned but not charged in the accident. The woman was the mother of a 13-year-old son and a 9-year-old daughter.
