A firefighter from DuQuoin was killed after receiving burn injuries while battling a multiple alarm fire in Pinckneyville, Illinois.
The fire broke out at the antique store in downtown Pinckneyville and quickly spread to the opera house next door. Firefighters from all different communities were called to the scene to assist in the large fire.
The owners of the shop live above it in an apartment and were all able to escape without injury. Both buildings were completely destroyed in the fire. Officials are still investigating the cause of the fire.

The building that houses Zorba’s Restaurant was damaged in the fire when its roof collapsed. This building also houses university buildings, another cafe and apartments. The business have decided to demolish the third floor where the majority of the fire damage occurred.
The fire was reported at 8 a.m. on Wednesday and took nearly two hours to get under control. A decision is being made on what will be done with the building and after that is made, the rest of the investigation can take place.
